My new job...

So at work today, I didn't do a whole lot...the only things I did that could actually qualify as "work" were sitting in with a live chat moderator, copy editing our job center faq, and attending the news meeting where they choose the front page stories for the next day (which really had nothing to do with me, I was just sitting in for the experience of it...) Anyway, lunch was fun. I walked across the street to the Subway (which I hear is quite a hotspot for employees of The Dallas Morning News) and got a sandwich. I don't care what people say about the heat around here, compared to Baton Rouge, 95 degrees here feels cool. And I mean that in all seriousness. At night, it feels like fall in South Louisiana. They're saying it gets hotter, which I'm sure is true, but all I know is that I walked outside for lunch today, and I didn't break a sweat. In a sweater and dress pants. That's saying something, for sure. One thing I already love about this place: the weather. Photos: The fountain in front of The Dallas Morning News, and the Dallas Morning News building.

Testing, 1, 2, 3...

This is just a test to see how the picture thingy works. This pic is rather inspirational for me, especially since I'm trying to get back into training again. It's of me around mile 25 of my first 26.2, the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco.

See how happy I am? I'm about to cross the finish line! I'm unstoppable! I am woman, hear me roar! Or...something like that. I did, in fact, finish (it only took me like 5:38 to finish...don't laugh or I'll kick you in the face) and I ran a half marathon a month later. I gotta do some more of that...if you know of any good running trails/roads/tracks/wide open spaces in the Dallas area, let me know. I'm particularly looking for something in Rockwall where I'm living, cause I'm lazy and would rather just crawl out of bed, throw on shoes, and go.

This picture feature is definitely new...I'll have to post the pics of the TDMN building where I'm working. It's gorgeous. I also have some great apartment pics to post. :-) This is fun.

The Dallas Morning News...and me

So I've officially started my job at The Dallas Morning News as an online content specialist in the classifieds section of dallasnews.com. Unfortunately, just because I've started my job, that doesn't mean I've really started working persay. There isn't much to do when I don't know how to do...anything. I now know how to publish stories to the Web using their web publishing tool VelocIT, which was easy enough to learn, but there are no new stories to publish. I'm watching someone moderate a live chat with my boss at noon. She does a column called "Lunch Ladies" where they review food, etc. Last night they tasted light and low carb beer. Sounds like my kind of job. Anyway, I'm going to learn to moderate so we can have live chats with experts in some of our categories. Those categories are cars, jobs, and homes. Right now, I'm the one who will be in charge of all of them. Very Exciting. I'm actually saying that without a hint of sarcasm. Since way back when I produced Clay's show on 1300 WIBR, I haven't done much actual work at work. Sure, I pushed buttons on Diva, talked in a microphone a from time to time, and put up banners here and there...but can that actually be considered work? It's about all I really should have been doing for $7 an hour, but now that I'm getting quite a bit more, I really want things to do. And as soon as I have something, I'll stop procrastinating. Really.
